Meet the Intern - Amy
My name is Amy O’Connell and I’m a new intern here at Aigner/Prensky Marketing Group this summer! In the fall I’ll be heading back to Boston University as a sophomore to study Public Relations with a potential minor in voice performance. I’m still quite a beginner but I can’t think of any place better to learn these PR skills than here at A/P!
Someday, I hope to do PR for an Opera company. I’ve been singing classically for a long time, and while I decided not to pursue a career as a professional singer, I still hope to be involved in the industry.
Along the way though I hope to get a lot of experience in different types of PR. I’m excited to start out by working at an agency like A/P. The environment here is super focused while also being completely friendly. One of the best things about being here is that I’m given real hands on tasks and responsibilities.
While I’m here, I’ll be splitting my time between PR work and some event planning. I feel really lucky to have the opportunity to get some experience in both areas. I’ll be doing a lot of work for The Pinehills in Plymouth and for American Camp Association, New England, Mount Auburn Hospital, and the Food Truck Festivals of New England.
Aside from A/P, I’ll also spend my summer teaching Karate at a studio in my hometown and spending as much time as I can with friends. At school, I’m an ambassador for my college, meaning I give tours and help run our open houses for new students. I’m also in an a cappella group called “Terpsichore” that performs at campus events and other events in the Boston area, and the Symphonic Choir at BU. And because all that isn’t enough, I’m taking on the role of Digital Media Coordinator for BU’s chapter of PR Student Society of America. I’m really involved but I wouldn’t trade any of the friends I’ve made or the experiences I’ve had for anything.
I’m really thankful to have this opportunity and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings!
